I'd been really impressed with what I'd learned from the Aria Bolognese website and a long phone conversation with Karen. I felt that she’d be a great breeder to work with to find my next baby! But I wanted to meet an actual Bolo, since all I knew about them was from research and pictures. Recently, I was able to take a little roadtrip to go visit Karen and her Bolos and see her set-up. First off, let me say that the Aria Bolognese Bolos are everything I'd expected from the breed description--but it’s hard to describe on paper how captivating, endearing and charming these little dogs are in person! I was also impressed by how mellow, affectionate, and quiet her Bolos are, especially for little companion dogs! I’m sure some of this is the breed, but I attribute a lot of it to the environment Karen has created on her lovely property for raising pups. The older pups are with their momma in her living room, right in the middle of the daily sights and sounds of her household so they get plenty of socialization and exposure to all sorts of different things. And the babies are right off the living room in a quiet, well-supplied room arranged around the comfort and safety of the newborns and momma—there’s even a sofa Karen can sleep on if they need overnight attention! What particularly struck me is how attentive Karen is to the needs of  both the mother and her pups—and how much knowledge and experience she has. And I love how she includes prospective owners in all stages of the puppies' development—not only is it educational, but also I feel like it’s great preparation emotionally for bringing home a new baby! As someone who has had only one dog before, I wanted to work with a breeder who takes as much time with new owners as Karen does, and who guides prospective new parents through the pup selection process. I’m so appreciative for all the time Karen and her husband took with me during my visit—I felt so warmly welcomed, both by them and by her beautiful, charming Bolos!
